Some of the world’s most extraordinary cultural treasures are housed thousands of miles from where they were created. But do they belong there?
From the Parthenon Marbles to the Benin Bronzes, Dr. Caroline Malloy takes us inside the fascinating and increasingly complicated debate over who owns history, how these objects ended up where they are today, who gets to tell their stories, and what happens when countries and communities ask for them back.
A sought-after historian and educator, Dr. Caroline Malloy teaches through institutions including the Newberry Library and OLLI Mason and spends several months each year as a resident historian with Viking Ocean Cruises, bringing history to life for travelers around the world.
Joining her at Disotto may not be quite as exciting as a Viking Ocean Cruise, but it is considerably more economical!
Your ticket includes a welcome beverage and small bites from Disotto, along with an evening of history, conversation and plenty to think about.
Spill Sessions is generously sponsored by Highpoint Living.

How did Highwood become Highwood?
Highwood may be small, but its history is anything but quiet. Join us at Mojo's Vinyl Bar, one of Highwood's hidden gems, where thousands of records line the walls and guests help choose the soundtrack for the evening.
In this lively, story-driven lecture, Dr. John J. Murphy explores how Highwood developed in the shadow of Chicago's explosive growth while carving out a fiercely distinct identity of its own. From railroads and Fort Sheridan to immigrant communities, taverns, restaurants, and the town's reputation as the North Shore's liveliest outlier, this talk asks a deceptively simple question: How did Highwood become Highwood?
Discover how Chicago's industrial power, labor unrest, military planning, transportation networks, and suburban expansion shaped this compact city just up the lakefront. The result is a story of class, immigration, soldiers, saloons, food, identity, and the making of a community that has always been connected to Chicago and its North Shore neighbors... and rivals.
Enjoy a welcome drink, light bites, and an evening where, just as every record has a story, so does every community. There's no better place to discover Highwood's story than surrounded by the music, memories, and conversation that have made Mojo's Vinyl Bar a favorite gathering place for those lucky enough to discover it.

June Spill Sessions
Join Highwood’s mural curators Laura “Lulu” Reich and CJ “Koz” Kozloff at Station 440 for behind-the-scenes stories, cocktails, rooftop views, and conversation inspired by the creatives whose vision transformed Highwood into a living canvas.
More Than Paint explores the transformative power of art and community. Born from a desire to bring people together through creativity and connection, Highwood’s International Mural Festival and city beautification project reimagined the community through large-scale public art, proving that murals can do more than change a visual landscape — they can uplift, inspire, and unite communities.
The film, shot, edited, and directed by Kozloff, stands as one of the most significant undertakings of his life and career. Guests will enjoy a newly created short version of the full-length documentary while learning about the story and impact of bringing public art to the North Shore amongst friends and neighbors.
Public Sculpture Dedication
Join us as we celebrate the dedication of Highwood's newest public sculpture and another exciting addition to the city's growing collection of public art.
The Highwood Chamber of Commerce invites you to a Ribbon Cutting and Public Sculpture Dedication with Collect with Lulu and Silvertuna Studios, co-curators of Highwood's mural program. Together, they have helped bring creativity and artistic expression to our community, and this new sculpture continues that tradition.
Meet the artist, Chris Rwk, and curators, learn about the inspiration behind the piece. Join us in recognizing the partnerships and vision that continue to make Highwood a destination for public art.
All are welcome to attend this FREE special community celebration.
